MEAL PLAN OPTIONS – DENISON DINING SERVICES
The 2016-2017 Meal Plans are designed to provide students maximum dining flexibility, value, and convenience on campus. We offer both Declining Balance Plans (debit dollars) and an unlimited All You-Care-to-Eat Plan.
Declining balance accounts provide debit dollars to be used in all dining facilities like a debit card. Debit dollars let you select between retail offerings at Slayter Union and the all you-care-to-eat meals in Huffman and Curtis Dining Halls.
As a residential campus, all students are required to reside on campus all four years and during the first three years, unless living in an apartment, students must participate in one of the four board plans that provide at least 10 meals per week in the dining halls: The “Big Red” plan, “The Hill” plan, the “Olmsted” plan, the “West College” plan, or the “West Loop” plan.
Two more limited plans are available in the senior year or if residing in an apartment: the “1831” plan; and “The Reserve” plan.
Debit dollars may be used in Curtis and Huffman Dining Halls, and in Slayter Union before 11 a.m. and after 1 p.m., Monday – Friday, and during any weekend hours.
All you care to eat meal prices are breakfast $6.00, lunch $7.00 and dinner $8.00. Slayter Union menu items are retail priced.
Farm to Fork
Farm to Fork is a companywide initiative to buy locally, formalized in 1999. Our first choice is to purchase seasonal ingredients from small, owner-operated farms and ranches within a 150-mile radius of your café. Food grown locally is fresher, better tasting, and often has greater nutritional value. Our commitment to local food is about preserving biodiversity, protecting open space, supporting family farmers, and keeping money invested in your community. Bon Appétit aims to spend at least 20 cents of every dollar with our network of over a thousand Farm to Fork suppliers. By doing so, we aim to strengthen our regional food systems so that everyone in our communities can eat well not just today, but for the future.» Learn more about your local farmers

For doing the right thing
We are committed to feeding people, not landfills.
Did you know?
Bon Appétit at Denison University is fighting food waste and hunger by recovering surplus perishable food from our campus that would otherwise go to waste. We donate this surplus to people in need through The Salvation Army, Water’s Edge, Yes! Club, The Haven, United Church of Granville, and Spark. We also work with the Alford Center for Service Learning which organizes student groups in support of the food recovery initiative.
I’ll have that in a Greenie please!
How does it work?
When you order food, ask for it to be served in a greenie!
Once at the register, the cashier will swipe your Denison ID card (even if you’re paying with cash or credit) for tracking purposes. When you’re finished, simply return the empty greenie to the cashier at Commit Grounds, who will again swipe your Denison ID card to track that you’ve returned it.
Frequently asked questions:
What is a greenie?
A greenie is a sustainable, reusable container for taking your meals to-go in Slayter. Whether you’re taking your food 15 feet, or across campus, greenies are an easy-to-use and environmentally friendly to-go option.
How much does it cost?
As long as you return it, it’s free! We use your Denison ID card to track when you check one out and back in, so you’ll only get charged for a greenie at the end of the year if you don’t return it. Then it’s $5 to replace.
Can I bring a container from home instead?
Sorry but no. Because of health code restrictions the greenie is the only acceptable reusable container for use in Slayter.
Do I need to wash my greenie before returning it?
Please dispose of any uneaten food in a compost bin (except for meat and dairy items, which go in the trash) before you return the greenie, and if you aren’t returning it directly after you eat please rinse it out as well. After we collect it from you at Commit Grounds, it gets transported to Curtis and run through our industrial dishwasher before being used again.
Oops! I forgot to return my last greenie, may I still get my food in one?
Yes, you may check out another one. Just make sure to bring them both back so you don’t get charged for them at the end of the year. That’s $5 per greenie to replace.
